About the Honorees

The Virginia Holocaust Museum has benefited greatly from Rhona Arenstein’s endless energy. She co-chaired the first Neil November Award Dinner and continues to participate as a judge in the Visual Arts Competition. Mrs. Arenstein has also helped organize and find funding sources for the recent “Women in the Congo Democratic Portraits of War” exhibit.  She is also involved in the Richmond community and has worked with VCU’s Department of Psychiatry to improve public awareness and generate funding for mental health issues, a lifelong focus.

Ric Arenstein is currently a Trustee of the Virginia Holocaust Museum. He is also the president of Arenstein and Associates, a real estate development & investment company, and is a former senior advisor to Governor Gerald L. Baliles. Mr. Arenstein has been involved in numerous leadership roles in the Richmond community, including the Board of Directors of Commonwealth Public Broadcasting, the Jewish Community Federation of Richmond, the Carole & Marcus Weinstein Jewish Community Center and the Children’s Museum of Richmond.

About the Award Dinner

In 2003, the Virginia Holocaust Museum’s Board of Trustees created a special award to recognize extraordinary leadership and service to the Museum. The award was named for and first awarded to Neilson J. November, longtime supporter of the Museum who was responsible for its phenomenal growth.

This award was established to honor those who have shown exceptional qualities of leadership and dedication to advance the mission for which the Museum exists – to teach Tolerance Through Education.

Past recipients have included Carole and Marcus Weinstein and Sunny and Jay Weinberg (2004), The Most Reverend Walter Sullivan (2005), Governor Timothy Kaine (2006), James Ukrop and Robert Ukrop (2007), Dr. Eugene P. Trani (2008), and Senator Henry L. Marsh, III (2009).
