The Art of Remembrance – A Retrospective of Holocaust Art

November 9th - December 31st

Artist: Linda Gissen

One of the most significant events in the history of the 20th century was the attempt by Nazi Germany to annihilate the Jewish people. This horrific time with the murder of 6 million Jews plus millions of others considered undesirable by the Nazi regime, left a painful void that will never be healed. As an artist, I have attempted to portray in visual form the history, experiences and the emotions of this time and the devastating impact the Holocaust has had and continues to have.

For many years I have been given both the privilege and awesome responsibility to portray in sculpture the memories and experiences of Holocaust survivors. They have entrusted me to tell for them what they feel is imperative for the world to remember. It is the goal of both the survivors and the artist to teach the lessons so that never again will the world turn a blind eye to the suffering and atrocities inflicted on others.
